Archiving with MS Exchange

This manual describes how to set up an MS Exchange Server for archiving internal emails in to the REDDOXX MailDepot.
The core technology is based on the MS Exchange journaling, which means, that every email will be duplicated once at first.
Depending of the specified transport rule the duplicate usually ends in a mailbox, which can be read via POP3 from the POP3 connector, or the duplicate is forwarded via SMTP to the REDDOXX SMTP connector.

In the following configuration steps, you must be logged in with administrator rights on the MS Exchange server.

To interact with the MS Exchange server a dedicated user authentication is required.
In the examples the user REDDOXX MSXAgent is used.
You can also choose any user name that matches your naming rules.
If the exemplary user already exists, you can use this.

In the documentation for MS Exchange 2010 Server, in addition to classic POP3 pick-up on the journaling mailbox, the journaling via SMTP is described.
This SMTP journaling method, that is only described as example with the Exchange 2010 configuration can be used for other Exchange Versions as well.
The direct delivery through SMTP offers the advantage that the emails are delivered immediately to the mail depot.
The delay through the regular polling the POP3 connector is omitted.
The POP3 Connector (which is our recommended way for journaling) has the advantage, that only with the POP3 Connector, the envelope will be set correctly.

Supported are MS Exchange Servers since and including MS Exchange 2010.
The configuration examples and setup is described in the following corresponding documents:

The setup of POP3 and SMTP Connectors in the Appliance is described in the document MailDepot Connectors.
If the SMTP Connector of the Appliance shall be reached via Port 25, the IP Alias (eth0:MdCon) must be set at first.
